Biographical

Kelly G. Hamer has been a trial lawyer since 1988, focusing her practice primarily on complex litigation in the areas of medical malpractice, personal injury, wrongful death, nursing home litigation, Department of Health proceedings and other healthcare related matters. She is a certified by the Florida Supreme Court as a Circuit Civil Mediator.

Ms. Hamer's extensive trial experience coupled with her knowledge and command of the medical field make her uniquely qualified to mediate cases involving medical issues related to both liability and damages. She has also handled employment-related issues including sexual harassment in the work place, wrongful termination and matters related to buyouts, termination of employment contracts and disputes involving non-compete agreements. Additionally, her experience as a trial lawyer provides her insight into the litigation process which allows her to be a skillful and effective mediator in helping to resolve disputes.

She has lectured and authored materials in the areas of medical malpractice and trial advocacy. Her book chapter, Demonstrative Exhibits, was published in 2006 by the Florida Bar and LexisNexis in the Florida Medical Malpractice Handbook. She also chaired the Advanced Trial Advocacy Seminar of the Florida Bar Trial Lawyers Section for several years, providing guidance and instruction to experienced trial lawyers who were trying to hone their advocacy skills.

Education

Prior to obtaining her law degree from the University of Florida College of Law in 1988, Ms. Hamer was graduated from Duke University in Durham, North Carolina cum laude with a Bachelors of Health Science Degree.


Memberships & Affiliations

Ms. Hamer maintains an AV rating by the Martindale-Hubbell Law Directory. Ms. Hamer is also a past member of the Executive Council of the Trial Lawyers Section of the Florida Bar from 1996 to 2005, holding the position of Chairman of the Council from 2003 to 2004. Her other bar service includes: Marion County Bar Association President: 1993-1994. Florida Bar Grievance Committee: Fifth Judicial Circuit 1997. Florida Bar Judicial Nominating Commission: Fifth Circuit 2000-2003. Professional Memberships include: The Florida Bar, Marion County Bar Association, Florida Chapter of ABOTA, Trial Lawyers Section of the Florida Bar, Florida Defense Lawyers Association and the International Society of Barristers.
